Epps Estate History

The Epps Estate Vineyard is on property that both Jeffrey and Juanita Epps were familiar with since the late 1980’s. In December 2001 Juanita was doing her daily run, that she is so well known for, and noticed a “for sale” sign being installed on the property. Unknown to her, the property had been in escrow to be sold to another buyer. That transaction was canceled after the events of 9-11-2001. We acted immediately to buy the property and closed 30 days later. We acquired soil and crop reports and hired John Truchard of Vinewerkes and began our quest to produce a premium Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

Epps Estate Vineyards

The vineyard is ideally located north and west of the city of Napa, on the floor of the Napa Valley, in the Oak Knoll District. The District lies at the southern end of the renowned Napa Valley where the growing season is longer – cooler in the summer than the warmer Upper Valley and drier in winter allowing soils to warm earlier in the spring. This even warming and cooling creates the quintessential “Sweet Spot” where it’s warm enough to perfectly ripen red varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon while being cool enough for grapes like Chardonnay. The first harvest was in 2003 and the first two years production during 2003 and 2004 were sold. In 2005 we began production of Epps Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

2016 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes This rich, garnet-colored wine brings the taste of sweet blackberries to the front, balanced with notes of crushed herbs and leather. Sophisticated layers of polished tannins, toasty oak and cola are followed by notes of boysenberry and licorice.

Epps Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes Inky purple to the rim. Aromatics of blackberry, espresso, pipe tobacco and violets. As the wine opens up the deeper structure gives way to subtle notes of sweet spice and earth. A very round mouth feel with plush tannins shows great balance and length in its youth. The wines pallet show black fruits of plum and cassis and fishes with notes of clove.

2017 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Tasting Notes Daisy yellow in color, this wine presents a light, cheerful bouquet of flavors filled with hints of white flowers, lime zest and pineapple. A rich and bright acidity balances the palate with pear and guava for the perfect finish.

Tasting Notes Daisy yellow in color the bouquet is full of white flowers, lime zest and pineapple. On the palate a rich and bright acidity balance well with pear and guava on the finish.
